Bakery on Main: Gluten Free Instant Oatmeal September 29, 2011

Bakery on Main Instant Oatmeal I don’t know about you, but when I wake up in the morning, I’m starving. I’m definitely a breakfast-kind-of-gal. Whenever I meet someone who says they skip breakfast, I’m always so surprised! My body needs food after 7+ hours of sleeping… pronto!

Not only do I want to eat the minute I wake up, but I usually don’t have time to sit around and make an elaborate meal. I am a mom (‘nuff said, right?!) and the mornings are busy (my entire day/week/life is busy)!

I do my fair share of cooking, don’t get me wrong. I chop fresh, organic vegetables at lunch for salads, I make home-made dinners most nights of the week, and I love to bake… But with breakfast, I’m hungry, it’s early, I’m still trying to wake up, and something quick, easy, but delicious, is just much more appealing.

One of my favorite gluten free newest-finds is Bakery on Main’s Gluten-Free Instant Oatmeal. You want fast? You can’t get much faster than instant oatmeal. Pour hot water over oatmeal or pop in the microwave for a minute and enjoy. It may be simple, but boring it is not. Bakery on Main’s GF Instant Oatmeal is tasty! It comes in three delish flavors: Strawberry Shortcake, Maple Multigrain Muffin, and Apple Pie. I thought I would like the Strawberry Shortcake flavor the best, but honestly, I just can’t pick a favorite. I liked all of them… all three were so yummy!

Don’t expect a super-sweet, instant oatmeal loaded with sugar or artificial flavorings either. Instead Bakery on Main uses real, super-ingredients and spices for a slightly sweet, flavorful, and nutritious meal. Each flavor is packed with good-for-you ingredients, certified gluten free oats, fruit, quinoa, flax meal, even amaranth! The list of other benefits continue: High Fiber, Non GMO, Dairy & Casein Free, Soy Free, Low Sodium, Trans Fat Free, Cholesterol Free, and of course, it is Gluten Free.

Sprinkle a few walnuts or pecans, and some fresh fruit on top of these gourmet flavors (though I liked my oatmeal plain too) and you’ve got yourself a pretty fabulous breakfast. Warm, yummy… a perfect breakfast choice this fall and winter. You can buy Bakery on Main’s Gluten Free Instant Oatmeal at $5.99 for10.5 oz. box of 6 packets online or in stores around November 1, 2011.

Now there is no excuse for skipping breakfast, my friends!

Lavender Pie Recipe

Ingredients:

1 (15 ounce) package pastry for a 9 inch double crust pie (or use your favorite pie crust recipe) Note: For Gluten Free pie crust see recipe below!

5 cups sliced peeled peaches
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1/2 cup all-purpose flour (or All-Purpose Gluten Free Flour)
1 cup Lavender sugar – See recipe in this article
1/4 teaspoon saltThe Cooking and Scrapping with Lavender Peach Pie
2 tablespoons butter

Directions:
  1. Start by Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F (220 degrees C).
  2. Line the bottom and sides of a 9 inch pie plate with one pie crust. Then brush the bottom of this crust with some of the beaten egg to keep the dough from becoming soggy later.
  3. Place the sliced peaches in a large bowl, and sprinkle with lemon juice. Mix gently. In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, Lavender sugar, and salt. Pour over the peaches, and mix gently. Pour into the pie crust, and dot with butter. Cover with the other pie crust, and fold the edges under. Flute the edges to seal or press the edges with the tines of a fork dipped in egg. Brush the remaining egg over the top crust. Cut several slits in the top crust to vent steam.
  4. Bake for 10 minutes in the preheated oven, then reduce the heat to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and bake for an additional 30 to 40 minutes, or until the crust is brown andThe Cooking and Scrapping with Lavender Peach Pie the juice begins to bubble through the vents. If the edges brown to fast, cover them with strips of aluminum foil, or make a foil tent to cover pie about halfway through baking. Cool before serving. This tastes better warm than hot.
